Baripada: The officer-in-charge (OIC) of Sarat police station was arrested on Friday for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 5, 000.
According to sources, the OIC identified as Ghanashyam Mallick had demanded Rs 5, 000 from one Rajendra Nayak, a resident of Kantapada area of Balasore district, for releasing his motorcycle that was seized by police.
However, Nayak lodged a complaint against Mallick following which a team of Baripada vigilance wing laid a trap and nabbed the accused officer red-handed while accepting the bribe amount from the complainant.
Further investigation into the matter is on and the accused being interrogated.
