Odisha Cop On Duty Caught On Camera Abusing Woman, Arrested

Angul: Nilamani Mohanty, a sub-inspector at the Banarpal police station here, was arrested on Friday for allegedly misbehaving with a woman at her house late last night in an inebriated condition.

A video of the incident has gone viral on social media.

A former defence personnel, Mohanty was appointed as a sub-inspector at the police station on a contractual basis after he retired from service.

Mohanty was patrolling the highway on Thursday night when he allegedly knocked on the door of the victim’s house at Angarua village around 3 am. In her complaint, the woman said Mohanty started abusing her verbally when she opened the door. She managed to take a video of the incident on the mobile phone.

She lodged a complaint at Talcher police station and provided the video as evidence in the morning. Mohanty was subsequently arrested.

“After a primary investigation on the basis of the complaint and the video, we found the incident true and arrested the accused. He will be forwarded to the court today. Further investigation into the incident is underway,” said a police official.
