Bhubaneswar: Police Commissioner Sudhanshu Sarangi has suspended a sub-inspector (SI), posted at a police station in the Odisha capital, for allegedly exploiting a woman on the pretext of marriage.
The accused SI has been identified as Rakesh Samal.
According to sources, the young woman met Rakesh through social media. Their families also agreed for the marriage. Meanwhile, they developed a physical relationship and Rakesh impregnated the young woman. When she told Rakesh about her pregnancy, he forced her to undergo an abortion.
However, the cop reneged on his promise and declined to marry her later.
The young woman then approached the police, but to no avail.
Rakesh then started harassing the young woman, following which she attempted suicide. Later both the families reached a mutual agreement at the Capital police station. It was decided that Rakesh will marry the young woman in 15 days, but the SI has been absconding since.
With no other option left, the victim lodged a complaint before Additional Police Commissioner Anup Sahoo.
