Puri: Puri SP Sarthak Sarangi on Saturday suspended a constable for allegedly misbehaving with a minor girl inside Jagannath Temple here.
On the basis of a complaint lodged by the girl’s family, the constable, identified as Chhukesh Meher, was earlier arrested by Simhadwara Police.
According to sources, a minor girl from Jajpur had come to the temple with her parents and relatives. While the family was waiting at Baharakatha of the temple, the accused constable approached them and offered to take them near Bhitarakatha for darshan of the Lords. Later, he took the minor girl with him and allegedly misbehaved with her. The girl later told her parents about the incident, following which they lodged a complaint at Simhadwara police station.
Several policemen were present inside the temple along with an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) when the incident took place.
Acting on the complaint, the Simhadwara police examined the CCTV footage and identified Mehera as the culprit. He was later placed under suspension by the order of the Puri SP.
