Berhampur: A day after six police personnel were injured in attack by an angry mob near Gobindpur Chhack in Ganjam district, more than 500 people of five villages were booked under attempt to murder and other charges on Wednesday.
The police personnel were assaulted by the agitators for attempting to pacify them while staging a road blockade.
Notably, the villagers were protesting attack on a truck driver of Gobindpur village by two youths. The driver of a cashew-laden truck was attacked and robbed of by a group of miscreants at Taptapani Ghati here on Monday night. Getting the information, the locals gathered near Gobindpur Chhack and blocked the road connecting Gobindpur and Jakarapali demanding action against the accused.
When police rushed to the spot to control the situation, the agitators started attacking them with stones.
The victims were admitted to the Mohana Community Health Centre.
Following the incident, senior police officers reached the spot and brought the situation under control.
