Cuttack: Mangalabag police in Odisha’s Cuttack city have arrested four imposters, who allegedly duped two policemen of around Rs 10 lakh by posing as cops.
The accused have been identified as Sarojkant Jena, Manoj Patnaik, Rajesh Kumar Khuntia and Susanta Kumar Sethy. A car, Rs 1.30 lakh in cash and a gold necklace have been seized from their possession.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Cuttack Additional DCP Anil Mishra said that the accused befriended two sepoys of OSAP 6th Battalion by identifying themselves as ‘special police’. They took Rs 9.80 lakh from the duo, promising to return the amount with 20 per cent interest.
When they did not return the money, one of the victims lodged a complaint with police, which then registered a case against the accused and apprehended them.
Mishra further said that the accused had earlier committed similar crimes in Dhenkanal, Angul, Hansapal, Pahala and Sundargarh, where they deceived victims by giving them bag filled with money along with currency note-sized papers.
