Cops Exhume Body Of ‘Missing’ Man Killed By Wife Using Pestle In Odisha’s Nayagarh

Bhubaneswar: Odagaon police in Odisha’s Nayagarh district exhumed the body of a man, who had been missing for the last 15 days, on Thursday night.

According to sources, one Gokula Naik of Rohibanka went to police to report about mysterious disappearance of his son Prakash Naik, who was residing with his wife and children at Komanda village. He was then asked to get his Aadhaar card. On reaching his house, he found a mound of mud inside the house. Suspecting foul play, he immediately rushed back to the police station again. The body was exhumed in the presence of Odagaon Magistrate. A platoon of force was also deployed in Komanda village to maintain law and order.

Naik (37) had married Jyotsnarani (32) of Komanda village, 14 years ago. The couple has a 7-year-old daughter and a 5-year-old son.

“Gokula Naik had lodged a complaint against Jyotsnarani and her mother Damuni, accusing them of killing his son and later burying the body inside the house. The accused during interrogation also confessed to the crime, following which the body was exhumed in presence of a scientific team and the executive magistrate,” said Saranakul SDPO Sudhakar Sahu.

The body has been sent for postmortem, he added.

It is being alleged that Naik’s wife Jyotsnarani had killed him by smashing a pestle on his head while he was sleeping in an attempt to hide her extra-marital affair with one Sonu Behera of Makarapada. The pestle and shovel used in the crime have been seized.

Police also managed to nab Sonu near Machipada while he was trying to escape.
