3 Of Family ‘Thrashed’ By Cops In Puri

Puri: Three members of a family were allegedly beaten up by Kumbharapada Police in Puri district late on Monday.

One of the victims, an elderly man, has been admitted to the district headquarters hospital in a critical condition.

According to the sources, the son and daughter-in-law of one Sarat Paikray of Abakash Lane under Kumbharapada police limits had a heated argument over some issue. Following the incident, Sarat’s daughter-in-law called the police alleging torture by her in-laws.

A police team rushed to the spot and picked up Sarat, his wife and son and then beat them up black and blue.

Protesting the incident, a group of locals also gheraoed Kumbharpada police station last night.

However, the reaction of police could not be obtained in connection with the matter.
