Cops Rescue Woman After SOS Tweet In Odisha’s Berhampur

Berhampur: A woman, who was allegedly held captive by a man, was rescued by the Berhampur Police on Wednesday. Berhampur Police rescued her from a house in lane no-4 in town’s Godabarisha Nagar.

The woman, who was identified as Sanjukta Sahoo, put out an SOS message on social networking site Twitter. She sought help from Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), Odisha DGP, Berhampur SP and even some media organisations via her tweet.

Responding to that, Berhampur SP tweeted on Thursday evening to inform that Sanjukta had been rescued and follow up action was initiated.

According to police sources, Sanjukta had pleaded via tweet requesting her immediate release from captivity of a man whose identity is yet to be known. She accused the man of encaging and exploiting her besides the plan of eliminating her.

After her tweet, cops swung into action and traced the house to rescue her. Police later moved Sanjukta to a Sakhi centre.

Police have lodged more than one case against the accused and a manhunt has been launched to catch him.
