Cuttack: A case was filed in Purighat police station on Sunday for alleged violation of the home quarantine norms, which is mandatory for people coming to the state from abroad.
According to sources, one person had registered for home quarantine after retuning from the US. However, it was found that the individual was not following the advice and was indulging in risky behaviour.
On being directed by the Health Department, police conducted a probe and found that the person had visited a market during the self-isolation period.
Based on prima-facie evidence, Purighat police then registered a case under Sections 188 (violating order promulgated by the government), 269 (negligently doing something that may spread infection of any disease dangerous to life), 270 (malignantly doing any act known to be likely to spread infection of any disease, which may pose threat to life), 271 (knowingly disobeying any quarantine rule.) of the IPC.
The person has been shifted to institutional quarantine, the sources added.
