New Delhi: Patanjali has been in the news of late for claiming that the company had found a “100 per cent” cure for the novel coronavirus.
A day after the ‘Corona Kit’ was launched, Union minister Shripad Naik said that the company first needs to take proper permission from the Ayush ministry.
There were protests against the company in Uttarakhand and an FIR was filed against brand ambassador Ramdev, Patanjali CEO Acharya Balkrishna and others in Jaipur.
After a series of claims and denials, Patanjali retract its claim about curing coronavirus. On Wednesday, Ramdev said that there was no restriction on the sale of the Patanjali coronavirus kit for the “management” of COVID-19.
This is not the first time that Patanjali has claimed a “cure” for a disease. The company sells “cures” for other diseases like dengue, chikungunya, swine flu, cataract and high blood pressure on its website, without providing any clinical evidence, reported the Mint.
According to the report, this may be a violation of the provisions of the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954, which forbids promotion of medicines for certain categories as “cures”.
