New Delhi: The COVID-19 cases in the country touched 74,281 with 3,525 new infections being reported in the last 24 hours, as per the Health Ministry.
Amid the spike in cases, the country surpassed Canada to become the 12th worst-hit nation to be affected by the virus.
While 2,415 people have died due to the illness so far, the recovery rate in the country still stands at 31 per cent. The doubling-rate of infections has also improved to 12.2 days from 10.9 days in the last 72 hours, health minister Harsh Vardhan told media on Tuesday.
At present, Maharashtra continues to be the worst-affected state with 24,427 total cases and 921 deaths followed by Gujarat (8,903), Tamil Nadu (8,718) and Delhi (7,639) coronavirus cases, the Ministry reported.
Moreover, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday further extended the lockdown in the country from May 18 with an ease in restrictions. He also announced a stimulus package of Rs 20 lakh crore to boost the economy amid the coronavirus pandemic.
