New Delhi: The COVID-19 pandemic in the country saw its biggest ever single-day spike with 5,609 fresh infections in the last 24 hours. This has taken the total tally to 1,12,359 as per the health ministry data at 8 am this morning.
While deaths related to virus stand at 3,435, 45,299 people have recovered from the deadly virus so far.
In Maharashtra, the total coronavirus cases reached 39,297, making it the worst-affected state. Delhi too reported its highest single-day rise in the cases. With 534 new corona positive cases in the last 24 hours, the affected tally of the national capital has gone up to 11,088.
Tamil Nadu continues to occupy the second. slot with 13,191 COVID-19 cases followed by Gujarat (12,537), as per the ministry data.
“About 6.39 per cent of the total active coronavirus cases in the country need hospital support,” the health ministry told the media on Wednesday.
