India’s biggest automobile exhibition, Auto Expo 2020, faces a threat from the deadly Coronavirus that originated in China and has so far claimed over 170 lives.
Chinese automakers like Great Wall Motors (GWM), First Automobile Works’ Haima Automobile, and Build Your Dreams (BYD), among other, are taking part in the trade show which starts from February 7 in Greater Noida. Executives are expected to fly in from China for the show and this has raised concerns about the virus that has become an epidemic in China.
The virus, which originated in Wuhan, has spread to 15 countries so far.
India has issued an advisory asking people to avoid non-essential travel to China at this time.
Apart from the Auto Expo, there will be many Chinese makers at the Components Expo which will be held at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi from February 6-9.
Officials of SIAM (Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers) are reportedly taking measures as per the government’s advisory. There will be medical facilities at Pragati Maidan.
Currently, WHO’s risk assessment report shows that the global pandemic of the Coronavirus is low.
