Coronavirus: Death Toll In China Crosses 800

The number of deaths due to the novel Coronavirus has exceeded the deaths due to SARS pandemic in 2002-03. The death toll in China now stands at 811 and that of positive cases has risen to 37,198, according to China’s National Health Commission.

One US national has also died in Wuhan.

In India, three patients from Kerala have tested positive. Their condition is currently stated to be stable.

Also, as many as 741 people have been tested for the virus in the country and 5,123 people are also under home surveillance.

India has urged people to refrain from travelling to China and has asked Chinese nationals to apply for fresh visa to travel to India.

Chinese authorities have said that the novel coronavirus can spread through direct transmission, contact transmission, or aerosol transmission which means the virus can mix with droplets in the air to form aerosols, which causes infection after inhalation.
