Nabarangpur: A newly-wed couple from Odisha’s Nabarangpur, who went to Malaysia on a honeymoon trip, are stuck in the foreign land as all return flights to India have been cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The helpless couple has requested the Odisha government to assist them in returning to their hometown in Odisha. Seeking help from the government, Pallabi said, “We are stuck in the airport for the last two days. We are running short of money and starving without getting proper food. There are many more Indians with us here. We heard that many Indian students were flown back to India recently. So, I request Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to kindly reach out to the Indian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, Malasia, and help us get back home.”
The honeymoon couple, Pallabi Mishra and Shankar Haldar, was supposed to return to Odisha on March 17. But, their scheduled return flight was cancelled in the view of coronavirus outbreak. The duo then booked tickets for another flight to India, but even that flight was cancelled by the Indian government as a precautionary measure to contain the spread of the virus.
The duo shared a selfie on WhatsApp and made a video requesting the governments of India and Odisha to bring them back to India.
According to reports, Pallabi and Shankar got hitched on February 26 and went for a honeymoon trip to Malaysia on March 12.
