China’s second biggest company, Tencent, has accidentally’ leaked statistics on Coronavirus cases and deaths that suggests the actual toll is much higher than that reported by the Chinese government.
Tencent briefly listed the total coronavirus cases at 154,023 and deaths at 24,589 on its “Epidemic Situation Tracker” on Wednesday.
The ruling Communist Party of China has been accused of under-reporting and this leak suggests that the pandemic could be worse than SARS. The official numbers released by China are 560 deaths so far.
The number of cured people stands at 269 according to Tencent, while the official number was 300.
Tencent has, however, refuted the numbers.
