Agra: The 25-year-old wife of a Bengaluru-based techie, who had tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) earlier this week, has also tested positive.
The woman and her husband, a Google employee, had recently returned from their honeymoon in Italy. Soon after landing in India, the couple was put under quarantine after the husband displayed symptoms of the disease.
However, the woman escaped from Bengaluru by taking a flight to New Delhi on March 8. From Delhi, she took a train to Agra to be with her parents.
Health officials claimed that the woman was staying with eight family members at her parents’ house in Agra. The officials claimed that they faced resistance when they visited the house and were only able to move her and her family members to isolation after the district magistrate intervened and a police force was called.
“After the medical team reached the house of the woman’s parents, her father, a railway engineer, refused to cooperate with us and lied that his daughter had left for Bengaluru. But after the district magistrate’s intervention, we were able to gain access to their house and took all the nine family members to the district hospital for screening,” a report in Times of India quoted the Agra chief medical officer, Dr Mukesh Kumar Vats, as saying.
“The woman has now been shifted to the isolation ward at SN Medical College,” the CMO added.
