Bhubaneswar: The lab report of a patient at AMRI Hospitals here showing the detection of ‘Coronavirus’ has gone viral on social media platforms, triggering alarm.
However, the hospital authorities clarified that the detected strain was not the novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 that has caused a pandemic in China. They also said the strain detected in the pneumonia patient was and that there was no need for panic.
“One pathology report of AMRI Hospitals is now viral on social media platforms, indicating that coronavirus is detected in a patient. We may like to inform that it is the common coronavirus strain and not the Novel Coronavirus or Covid-19. Only National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune and some limited government laboratories have the facility to test novel Coronavirus or Covid-19. We should not panic or create panic,” a hospital statement said.
