Coronavirus Scare In Odisha: Engineer From Hong Kong Admitted To SCB

Cuttack: The SCB Medical College and Hospital here received one more suspected coronavirus case late on Tuesday. Medical student of Phulbani, Mryutunjay Muni who had tested negative for the deadly virus, was discharged from the hospital the same day. 

The new suspected patient is reportedly a native of Jagatsinghpur district. A software engineer, he worked with a private firm in Hong Kong and had returned home on January 24 after a brief trip to China. He showed symptoms of coronavirus and was rushed to the hospital. His swab and blood samples will be sent to National Institute of Virology (NIV) in Pune for tests, sources said.

Now, there are two patient in the SCB isolation ward.

On February 2, an MBBS student from Wuhan province, the epicentre of coronavirus in China, was admitted to the premier hospital after she underwent thermal screening at Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar and was found in poor health. Her test reports are awaited. 

The five other samples sent to Pune had tested negative for the virus.

DMET (Directorate of Medical Education & Training), Dr CBK Mohanty had on Tuesday said that 13 persons from China and one from Thailand had arrived in Odisha and 12 of them were under home surveillance.

The Odisha government has opened special wards in five major hospitals in the state for the treatment of coronavirus case. The special ward at SCB has 76 beds and 8 ICU beds for possible cases.
