Puri: The devotees will now have to pay more to purchase the ‘Patitapaban Bana’ (sacred flag) atop Jagannath Temple in Odisha’s Puri town.
The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) on Saturday took the decision to increase the cost of Patitapaban Bana by Rs 100 at its finance sub-committee meeting on Saturday.
As per the decision, the cost of the holy flag has been increased from Rs 200 to Rs 300. The new cost of the flag will come into effect from Saturday, said Jitendra Kumar Sahu, SJTA Administrator (Ritual) after the meeting.
It has been a practice in the temple to sell the sacred flag after the ‘Olagi’ (flag changing) ritual. Any devotee present in the temple campus can purchase it.
It may be noted that the cost of the holy flag had not been changed for the last 10 years.
