New Delhi: Face masks made of cotton can reduce transmission of coronavirus, a study by McMaster University in Canada claims.
Since the virus most likely gets spread through coughing, speaking and sneezing, the cotton masks which are four layered can retain the particles released in the form of droplets.
It can block all the aerosol-sized particles by 99 per cent and even stop the same from releasing it into the environment, the study further said.
Besides, a three-layered mask made of cotton can also prevent surface contamination by 99 per cent, and is effective in reducing bacteria recovered from aerosol-sized particles by 88 to 99 per cent, it added.
