Countries Ban Hydroxychloroquine For Coronavirus Treatment Amid Safety Concerns

New Delhi: Countries like France, Italy and Belgium have asked the hospitals here to stop the use of anti-malaria drug Hydroxychloroquine to treat COVID-19 patients.

The medication was halted amid health safety of the infected patients.

The World Health Organization (WHO) also paused trials of the drug after a report published in the Lancet Journal claimed the medication was harming the patients.

Following the health body’s instructions, the three hardest-hit countries by the coronavirus cancelled the authorization of the drug.

Meanwhile, the countries will continue to carry out clinical trials of the drug outside human use. The trials will also expose the potential risks of using the drug and check its effectiveness in treating the virus.
