Dubai: Some countries like Mongolia, Seychelles, Chille and Bahrain have fully vaccinated more than 50% of their populations. However, they are seeing outbreaks of the disease after easing rules.
The Chinese vaccines, Sinopharm and Sinovac have efficacies of 78.1 per cent and 51 per cent respectively.
The vaccines are being stated as not very effective with new variants particularly, reported The New York Times (NYT).
Seychelles, Chile, Bahrain and Mongolia are also on the top 10 list of countries facing worst COVID-19 outbreaks despite being on the top vaccinated places list as well.
“If the vaccines are sufficiently good, we should not see this pattern,” said Jin Dongyan, a virologist at the University of Hong Kong.
Israel is 2nd in terms of vaccination rate and currently reports 4.95 new COVID-19 cases per million. On the other hand, Seychelles, which is first in the list, reports more than 716 cases per million. Israel has used Pfizer’s vaccine while Seychelles has used Sinopharm mostly.
The Chinese vaccines are being used by over 90 countries. The NYT reports that it could so happen that these countries could remain partially protected from the virus despite being fully vaccinated.
