Bhubaneswar: The security personnel of Biju Patnaik International Airport here seized a country-made gun from the luggage of a passenger and handed him over to the Commissionerate Police on Wednesday evening.
According to the Commissionerate Police sources, the youth, identified as Rama Chandra Jena of Krushnaprasad in Puri district, was scheduled to travel in an Air Asia flight from Bhubaneswar to Chennai via Bengaluru. During luggage X-ray screening, the security officials detected the gun in his bag.
Police have detained Jena and registered a case on the basis of a report of the airport’s security in-charge under Indian Arms Act.
The police have started the investigation to ascertain Jena’s antecedents and the source of procurement of the gun.
