Sambalpur: A country-made pistol was recovered while a classroom at Rengumunda UP School under Jamankira police limits in Odisha’s Sambalpur district was being cleaned, Headmaster Lakhsmikant Bagh informed on Monday.
According to sources, the weapon was stashed on a shelf inside the room, which was earlier occupied by a teacher. Assistant Teacher, Gobind Bhoi, used to live in one classroom and used another as a kitchen. He was transferred on March 4, but his belongings were yet to be shifted.
As the shortage of classrooms hampered studies, the Cluster Resource Center Coordinator (CRCC) ordered him to vacate those. The school staff found the pistol while cleaning the classroom on Saturday. The CRCC has been animated about the matter, the headmaster added.
It is suspected that the pistol belongs to the teacher.
In October last year, he had allegedly attacked a man, Dileswar Sahu, with an axe. Though police said that no complaint has been lodged in this regard so far, a probe will be launched to ascertain if Bhoi owned the pistol.
