Couple Consume Poison; Husband Dead, Wife Critical

Bhawanipatna: In what seems like a suicide pact, a man died after allegedly consuming poison while his wife is battling for life at a hospital.

The incident was reported from Uburi village under Biswanathpur police limits on Monday.

The deceased has been identified as Sandu Majhi. Her wife Duti Majhi was found in an unconscious state by neighbours, who rushed her to Biswanathpur hospital. She was later shifted to the district headquarters hospital as her condition deteriorated.

“We have not recovered any letter indicating the reason behind the extreme step. However, villagers informed us that the duo consumed some poisonous substance by mixing it with ‘mandia jau’. The couple reportedly used to argue over petty issues on regular basis,” a police officer said.

Police have registered a case of unnatural death and started investigation.
