Two Critical After Speeding SUV Of BJP’s Saraskana MLA Rams Moped In Odisha

Baripada: A man and his relative were critically injured when a vehicle, belonging to a BJP MLA allegedly rammed into their moped, near Titia Chhak on Udala-Baripada road in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district on Sunday evening.

The injured have been identified as Michu Singh (60) and his relative Sanyashi Singh (55) of Tangna village. They have been admitted to PRM Medical College and Hospital for treatment.

According to sources, the accident took place when the duo was returning home from the weekly village market at around 4 pm. The speeding SUV, in which BJP MLA from Saraskana Bhadav Hansdah was reportedly travelling towards Udala, dashed against the two-wheeler and dragged it for several metres. The vehicle eventually came to a halt after crashing into a roadside tree.

Eyewitnesses said that four occupants of the SUV fled the scene immediately after the accident.

While the injured couple was rushed to hospital, agitated locals blocked the Udala-Baripada road and set tyres ablaze, demanding compensation for the two victims. They also accused the MLA of fleeing the spot instead of helping the accident victims. Khunta police are at the spot and efforts are underway to pacify the protesters.

Meanwhile, Hansdah claimed he facilitated the shifting of the accident victims to the MCH.
