Paradip: A couple died after their car crashed into a road divider and fell into a water-filled pit near Gada Bazar at Paradip in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district.
The deceased have been identified as Bibhuti Bhushan Das and his wife, Pratima Das. Bibhuti was working in the Marine Department of the Paradip Port and had retired from service.
According to information, the couple had gone to the house of Bibhuti’s sister after his retirement. They were returning to Paradip in their car late Tuesday night when the accident occurred.
The incident took place when the car was passing through the road near the Gada Market to join the highway. Their car reportedly hit a road divider before veering off the road and plunging into a water-filled pit along the road.
After receiving information, local residents, with the assistance of police, rescued the couple from the vehicle and rushed them by ambulance to the Atharabanki Community Health Centre (CHC). However, doctors declared both of them dead on arrival.
Police have seized the bodies and informed the family members. The Lock Police have initiated an investigation into the accident. Further details regarding the exact cause of the crash are awaited.
