Cuttack: Cuttack DCP Akhilesvar Singh felicitated a couple for returning a handbag containing gold ornaments, valuables and Rs 2 lakh in cash to its rightful owner.
Bijayananda Mohanty and his wife Pratibha Mohanty found the handbag on the Cuttack-Kendrapara State Highway and used a cellphone inside it to immediately contact the owner.
The handbag belonged to Sridhar Sahoo, a constable posted in the office of the Cuttack DCP. He had lost it while returning to the city with his wife from Kendrapara on May 13. On receiving the call, Sahoo rushed to the couple’s house and collected the handbag.
A native of Bramhana Khandi village under Nischintakoili block, Bijayananda works as teacher at Kalapally Upgraded High School at Khairput in Malkangiri. “Neither did we count the money, nor touched the jewellery. We just used the phone to inform the owner. It feels good to be felicitated by the Commissionerate Police for honesty,” he said.
