Sonepur: Excise officials have arrested a couple from Madhya Pradesh for allegedly transporting ganja in a car in Odisha’s Subarnapur district.
As per reports, the Excise officials suspected the car travelling on Sonepur-Binka road during routine patrolling. The car with ‘Media’ sticker pasted on the front glass aroused their suspicion and they followed it.
The Excise officials intercepted the car bearing Chhattisgarh registration number at Kartang Chhak under Binika block of the district. On searching the vehicle, they found 20.5 kg of ganja packed in two bags inside it. They arrested the couple travelling in the car and seized the contraband.
Confirming the incident, Excise SP of Sonepur Sumati Tripathy said the couple was carrying the ganja in their car from Boudh to Madhya Pradesh. The couple was identified as Anil Soni and his wife Rajani Soni from Kotma in Madhya Pradesh.
“We have registered a case under Sections of the NDPS Act and started investigation into the case,” she added.
