Bhubaneswar: At least four persons, including a couple and a headmaster, were killed and several others injured in three separate road accidents in Odisha on Wednesday.
In a tragic mishap in Khurda district, a couple died after their car collided with a private bus in Begunia area in the morning
The accident took place near Pichukuli Adarsha Vidyalaya on the Khurda-Balangir National Highway No. 57 when the man and his wife were proceeding towards Bhubaneswar in their car.
The private passenger bus was on way from Bhubaneswar to Nayagarh when the collision took place.
While the couple died on the spot, two passengers of the bus were reportedly injured.
On getting information, Begunia police and fire services personnel arrived at the spot and recovered the bodies from the vehicle. Police have started investigation and bodies sent for postmortem.
In another accident at Kaithakhandi Square in Digapahandi of Gajnam district, headmaster of Madhuban School Kuresh Patra was on his way to school when his bike was hit by a private bus.
Sources said the bus rammed into the bike near the Digapahandi-Ghodahada main road. The impact caused the headmaster to fall onto the road, resulting in a severe head injury and death.
In yet another road mishap, one person died and several others were injured when a bus they were travelling in lost control and overturned near Tara village under Nabarangpur police station limits in the early hours of Wednesday.
Sources reported that the bus was proceeding to Jeypore from Raighar with 50 passengers on board. One of the rear tyres of the vehicle burst, leading to it veering off the road and overturning.
Following the crash, fire services personnel and police arrived at the scene to carry out rescue operations, where they were aided by local residents.
