Raurkela: A man and his wife were arrested by the Cyber Crime and Economic Offences police in Odisha’s Sundaragada district for allegedly duping a man of over Rs 1.26 crore by promising to double his money through various investment schemes.
The accused have been identified as Abinash Grahacharya (42) and his wife Indulekha Ojha (40) of Berhampur village in Baleshwar district.
The two were arrested from Baripada in Mayurbhanj district, according to Additional Superintendent of Police S N Samad.
The victim had lodged a complaint on April 17 alleging the couple had cheated him and his wife of a total Rs 1.26 crore on the promise of high interest and substantial growth over their investment.
Following the complaint, a case was registered under sections 318(2), 318(4) and 3(5) of the BNS and investigation launched. During probe, police found that the accused couple had earlier cheated several gullible people in the same way.
“We registered a case against the couple in April this year on the basis of the complaint lodged by a victim of Sundaragada,” she said.
The couple had formed a company and opened their office at various places, including Bhubaneswar. Through various schemes, they lured investors with a false promise of high returns.
Further investigation is underway to nab any other accused involved in the cyber fraud.
