Boudh: In a tragic incident, a man and his wife were killed in front of their minor daughters after being hit by an ambulance on a bridge over river Mahanadi in Odisha’s Boudh district on Saturday.
As per preliminary information, the deceased were identified as Mitu Behera and his wife Manorama of Sadeipur area of the district
Sources said the mishap took place when the couple together with two daughters was proceeding from Athamallik to Boudh on a bike. They had stopped on the bridge as the girls wanted to have a look at Mahanandi water. The couple waited on the bike and waited for the girls to return.
However, an ambulance, moving from Sambalpur side, dashed against them from the rear.
While the man reportedly died on the spot, his wife was rushed to Boudh District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in critical condition and she succumbed to injuries.
Fortunately, both the children are reportedly safe.
The driver of the ambulance reportedly fled the scene soon after the accident and efforts are on to trace him.
On being informed, a police team reached the spot and started the investigation.
