Koraput: A couple died after coming in contact with live wires laid by poachers to catch wild animals in Nandapur area of Odisha’s Koraput district.
As per sources, the mishap took place at Geruput village located under Nandapur block of the district on Monday evening. The deceased have been identified as Balaram Galel and his wife Bala Galel.
The two who ran a tea stall near Nandapur hat had gone to the nearby forest to collect firewood for making tea in the evening. However, when they didn’t return after a long time, their family and villagers launched a search operation.
The bodies of the two were found in the forest. The bodies were entangled in electric wire apparently laid by poachers to trap animals. The incident has sparked outrage in the area, with villagers demanding strong action against the poachers.
On being informed, a police team from Nandapur visited the spot and initiated an investigation into the incident.
The bodies were recovered by the police and sent for post-mortem. Efforts are on to identify and apprehend the poachers who had laid the live wire.
The family of the deceased urged the district administration to provide them with adequate compensation.
