Couple Killed As Wall Collapses During Drain Cleaning In Odisha’s Sonepur

Sonepur: A man and his wife were killed after a wall of a structure collapsed and fell on them during cleaning of a drain in Odisha’s Sonepur district on Saturday.

As per preliminary information, the mishap took place in Grid Colony area of Sonepur town when drain cleaning work was in progress.

The couple, identified as Manu Mirdha and his wife Durlabh Mirdha, worked as daily wagers at the work site. They hailed from Radhadeipur village under the jurisdiction of Subalaya police station in the district.

Sources said the couple was engaged in the drain cleaning work when a fragile wall of a nearby structure collapsed on them.

The two were rescued by locals and fire services personnel and rushed to a hospital where doctors declared both dead.

On being informed, a police team visited the site and launched a probe into the incident. The bodies were sent for postmortem.
