Nuapada: Even as Odisha government is observing “Zero Fatality Week”, two more persons died in a road accident in Nuapada district on second successive day on Sunday.
As per reports, 56-year-old Jayaram Majhi and his wife Ghunamati Majhi of Ainlajuba village under Khariar Road block were going on a bike toward Komna on National Highway 353. A truck coming from opposite direction collided with them at Maniguda village under Komna police station.
While Jayaram died on the spot, Ghunamati sustained critical injuries and started bleeding profusely. On being informed by the locals, a team from Tarabod outpost reached there and sent Ghunamati to the district headquarters hospital. But she succumbed in the hospital.
The police informed the family of Jayaram and handed over his body after post-mortem, said officer-in-charge of the outpost Gourishankar Das. Both the bike and the truck have also been seized, he added.
Earlier in the day, the driver of a truck died after the iron ore-laden vehicle overturned after crashing into the guard wall on the highway in Bangiriposi of Mayurbhanj district.
In another accident, a person died while three others sustained critical injuries when a car collided with bus near Chandrasekhapur petrol pump in Bhubaneswar.

A woman and her paternal uncle (father’s elder brother) died on the spot near Mendhatala village under Lakhan police limits in the district on Saturday. They were going on a motorcycle when a truck hit them.
