Keonjhar: Bodies of a couple were found lying in a pool of blood at a house in Harichandpur area of Odisha’s Keonjhar district on Sunday amid allegation that the two were murdered on suspicion of practising sorcery.
The deceased were identified as Bahada Murmu (45) and his wife Dhani Murmu (35).
According to reports, the ghastly incident took place in Jhumkipatia village under Harichandanpur police station limits when the couple was asleep in the house and the bodies were found in the morning.
Some unidentified miscreant were stated to have entered their house and murdered them with an axe before fleeing.
On getting the information, a team of police personnel reached the spot and recovered the bodies. The bodies were sent for post-mortem.
While the exact reason behind the incident is yet to be ascertained, villagers suspected that the couple might have been murdered over suspicion of practising sorcery, sources said.
Investigation by the police is underway and efforts are on to identify and nab those nvolved in the incident. Details are awaited.
