Jajpur: In a tragic incident, a couple died after being run over by a train while crossing railway tracks near Baitarini Road station in Odisha’s Jajpur district.
The two, identified as Ashutosh Sinha and his wife Laxmipriya Sinha, were proceeding to their village for Dussehra celebrations when the incident took place on Friday, a report from Jajpur said on Saturday.
The deceased, who hailed from Barundei village under the jurisdiction of Korei police station in the district, were staying in Baripada. They were on their way to village for the festival.
After boarding a train from Balasore, the couple got down at Baitarani Road station. They were crossing the railway tracks when a train ran over then, killing both on the spot, sources said.
Government Railway Police (RPF) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel rushed to the spot and launched a probe into the incident.
