Couple Run Over By Speeding Truck, Locals Block Sambalpur-Deogarh Road In Odisha

Deogarh: A couple died after a speeding truck rammed into their bullock cart on NH-49 near Tileibani Chhak in Odisha’s Deogarh district as they were going to their field to collect the harvested produce on Thursday.

The deceased have been identified as Sarat Sahu, a farmer of Asurkhol village, and his wife Visakha. The truck was heading from Deogarh towards Sambalpur. The husband and wife died on the spot and one of the bullocks too was killed after coming under the wheels of the heavy vehicle.

While driver and helper of the truck managed to flee, locals gathered at the spot and blocked the Sambalpur-Deogarh route, demanding compensation for the bereaved family.

On being informed, police reached the spot and assured the villagers of needful action, sources said.
