Couple Sustains Critical Burn Injuries While Cooking In Odisha’s Sundargarh

Sundargarh: A couple sustained critical burn injuries in their house in Bonai area of Odisha’s Sundargarh district on Monday.

The incident took place in Bapas Chamber Colony under the jurisdiction of Bonai police station. The two have been identified as Shivaji Lakra and his wife Anita Lakra.

While Shivaji is an employee of Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC) in Khandadhara, Anita happens to be a homemaker. They stay in a rented house in Bapas Chamber Colony under Bonai police limits in the district.

As per preliminary information, Anita’s clothes caught fire while cooking in the morning. Hearing her scream, Shivaji rushed to save her. However, his clothes also caught fire while trying to save his wife and both were critically injured in the process.

Their family members rescued both and rushed them to the sub-divisional hospital at Bonai for treatment. As the woman received about 80 percent burn injuries, the couple was later shifted to the Rourkela Hospital after preliminary treatment.

While it is yet to be ascertained as to how the incident took place, police have launched an investigation into the mishap.
