Bhubaneswar: A dispute over honking reportedly escalated into a violent confrontation in Bhubaneswar, leaving an Assistant Section Officer (ASO) and a journalist injured.
According to information, the incident took place on Friday when the ASO, identified as Tapas Nayak, honked at two youths and a woman, asking them to move their vehicle aside.
The situation turned ugly as the three allegedly dragged the ASO onto the road and assaulted him. A journalist who was passing by, was also attacked when tried to intervene and protect the ASO.
In a bid to escape, the journalist took shelter inside Rabindra Mandap. The attackers allegedly followed him into the premises, continued the assault, and also clashed with security personnel present there.
After receiving information, Kharavela Nagar police reached the spot and tried to control the situation. The three accused allegedly pushed and manhandled the police officers and used abusive language against them.
A video of the incident has surfaced on social media and is circulating widely. After a prolonged scuffle, police rescued the injured ASO and the journalist. Both were later taken to a hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, police have detained the three individuals, including a couple, and are questioning them in connection with the case. Further investigation is underway.
