Balasore: The Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) court in Odisha’s Balasore on Saturday allowed the police to take arrested Senior Technical Officer of the high-security Interim Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur in the district on 4-day remand.
The police had filed a petition in the court seeking the remand of the Senior Technical Officer, Baburam Dey, for 5 days. But the court issued permission for 4-day remand. Baburam will remain in police custody till February 28.
The police had arrested Baburam on Friday for allegedly passing sensitive defence information to a Pakistani agent. IG Police, Eastern Range, Himanshu Lal had informed the media that a case had been registered against him at Chandipur police station on a written report filed by sub-inspector Chandra Sekhar Mohanty.
Lal said the officer of the ITR transmitted/shared the secrets of sensitive defence information regarding missile tests to a Pakistani agent for sexual as well as monetary gratification through WhatsApp conversation and exchange of sexual images and videos.
The officer was in contact with the agent, who was operating from Rawalpindi, for over a year. A mobile phone has been seized from his possession, he added.
