Nayagrah: A court has announced death sentence to an accused in a double murder case in Odisha’s Nayagarh district.
As per the case, the accused, Niranjan Mallik of Kushadhipi village under Odagaon police limits in the district, had murdered a security guard and a woman and injured three others in Odagaon on January 17, 2019.
Niranjan had attacked the security guard Lochan Sethi while the later was on night duty at Odagaon market with a wooden plank on the fateful day. While Lochan died on the spot, Niranjan forcibly entered the house of the woman, Badani Pradhan, near Odagaon cinema hall and also killed her. Later in the same night, he attacked three other persons injuring them seriously.
Following the incident, the police had launched a manhunt and nabbed Niranjan who was absconding for some time. Later, the police had filed the chargesheet in the court after a detailed investigation.
Speaking to the media, Indubhusan Mishra, additional public prosecutor, said the Additional District and Sessions Judge examined the chargesheet and heard 27 witnesses in the case during the trial. Announcing its verdict, the court sentenced Niranjan to death, he added.
