Cuttack: The Special MP/MLA Court in Cuttack on Thursday framed charges against local MP Bhartruhari Mahtab for allegedly slapping a police sub-inspector (SI).
As per the case, the incident took place when the MP was going to attend a public meeting at Netaji Birthplace Museum in Cuttack on January 23, 2011. He allegedly slapped then SI Amitabh Mohapatra, now posted as Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP).
Mohapatra had filed an FIR at Dargah Bazaar police station at the time. The police had registered a case and started investigation.
Following investigation into the complaint, the police filed the charge sheet in the court. The JMFC and designated court of Justice Deepankar Bal framed the charges against the MP under Sections 341, 323, 294, 353 and 506 of the IPC.
The court scheduled the next date of hearing of the case on April 5.
