Court In Delhi Allows Former Wrestling Body Chief & BJP Leader Brij Bhushan To Renew His Passport

New Delhi: The Rouse Avenue court in New Delhi has granted permission to BJP leader and former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh—who is facing sexual harassment charges— to renew his passport for one year.

Meanwhile, two victims have engaged a new counsel to represent them in the case. Last year, the same court had granted bail to former Brij Bhushan and former WFI assistant secretary Vinod Tomar on a personal bond of Rs. 25000 each in the alleged sexual harassment and molestation case filed by six woman wrestlers.

The court had imposed two bail conditions on the duo. It had stated that the duo was not allowed to leave the country without prior permission of the court.

The duo was also asked not to influence witness or tamper with the evidence in the case.

On June 15, the Delhi Police had filed a chargesheet against Singh and Tomar based on the complaint by women wrestlers under sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 354A (sexual harassment), 354D (stalking) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Previously, two FIRs were also registered against the BJP MP. One of the FIRs was under the Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. But, a minor wrestler who had levelled the charges withdrew her statements. The second FIR was lodged on the complaints of several wrestlers.
