Bhubaneswar: Hours after his arrest, Ollywood actor and film producer Pupinder Singh was granted bail by the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) court in connection with a cheating case.
He was earlier arrested by the Commissionerate Police from his Hanspal residence on the outskirts of the city on the basis of a non-bailable warrant (NBW) issued against him by the JMFC court.
The NBW was issued against Pupinder Singh and his wife for defying court summons in a case pertaining to alleged non-repayment of a loan which they had taken from a mining company.
In 2013, the anchor-turned-actor and his wife took a loan of Rs 30 lakh from the mining firm for his home production Odia film. Though he had initially repaid Rs 5 lakh, three cheques given by him to the company bounced in the later phase following which the firm moved the court, reports said.
Speaking to a TV channel, Pupinder had said the matter has already been settled out of court and expressed confidence that the mines trader will withdraw the case on Tuesday. He was planning to move court on Monday for bail.
