Bengaluru: A court in Karnataka’s Tumakuru district on Friday asked the police to register an FIR against Kangana Ranaut for her recent tweet allegedly targeting farmers protesting against the new farm bills and calling them “terrorists”.
A complaint was filed by lawyer L Ramesh Naik, based on which the judicial magistrate first class (JMFC) court directed the inspector of Kyathasandra police station to register an FIR against the actress.
Naik had filed an application under section 156(3) of the CrPC seeking an investigation, the court said.
“The office is hereby directed to issue intimation to the circle police inspector of Kyathasandra police station along with photostat copy of the complaint for report,” it added.
Naik told PTI that the court has ordered the jurisdictional police station to register an FIR and inquire the criminal case against the ‘Panga’ actress. He also stated that Kangana’s tweet on farmers had hurt him, which is why he had lodged a complaint against her.
On September 21, the actor had tweeted from her personal handle, “People who spread misinformation and rumours about CAA that caused riots are the same people who are now spreading misinformation about Farmers bill and causing terror in the nation, they are terrorists. You very well know what I said but simply like to spread misinformation.”
