Bhubaneswar: Three persons were sentenced to jail for rape of a physically challenged minor girl in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district around 5 years back.
As per the case, though the minor girl was raped by the three men several times in 2017, she did not tell her family for her mental condition. Her parents came to know about it after she became pregnant. Suspecting involvement of the three persons, her father filed a complaint at Kuliana police station. The police had registered a case under POCSO Act and arrested the accused persons.
After hearing the witnesses and examining the evidence, Mayurbhanj District Special POCSO Court Judge Sumita Jena on Friday convicted the three persons and sentenced them to rigorous imprisonment for 10 years. The court slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 each on two convicts and Rs 5,000 on the other.
The court also directed the Mayurbhanj District Legal Services Authority to pay Rs 7 lakh as compensation to the victim.
