Nayagarh: A court has sentenced 6 persons to life imprisonment in a murder committed 22 years back in Odisha’s Nayagarh district.
As per the case, Madan Nayak of Kesapania under Sarankul police station was attacked with sharp weapons by a group of people over previous enmity in 2002. Some villagers, who went to rescue of Nayak, were also attacked by the assailants. Nayak, who sustained critical injuries in the attack, succumbed in the hospital.
After Nayak’s family filed a complaint, police started investigation and arrested 18 accused in the murder.
Hearing the case, Additional District Sessions Court convicted 6 accused in the case and sentenced them to life imprisonment. The court also imposed a penalty of Rs 10,000 on each of them.
However, the court acquitted 10 accused for lack of evidence, while two others have died during the case.
